The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office is concerned with citizens’ personal safety and the protection of their property. In this regard, a number of crime prevention programs have been developed to reduce the potential for crimes against county residents.
A Sergeant and six Deputies staff the Agency’s Community Services Unit. The Unit is available to make public presentations for organizations, community groups, churches and schools throughout Shawnee County on a variety of topics. Programs/Topics include: Home and Business Security Surveys, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Surveys; Child Safety; Senior Safety; Child I.D.; Record it, Report it & Recover it; Neighborhood Watch; Summer Youth Academy; Citizens Academy and DARE.
The Community Services Unit conducts annually a Citizens Academy and a Summer Youth Academy. The DARE program is taught to over 600 sixth-grade students every year and is offered in the Seaman, Shawnee Heights and Kaw Valley School Districts. The DARE program has one full-time and two part-time instructors.
