Community Service
The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office is concerned with citizens’ personal safety and the protection of their property. In this regard, a number of crime prevention programs have been developed to reduce the potential for crimes against county residents. The Unit is available to make public presentations for organizations, community groups, churches and schools throughout Shawnee County on a variety of topics, including child safety; senior safety; crime prevention, and more. The Community Services Unit conducts annually a Citizens Academy and a Summer Youth Academy. The D.A.R.E. program is taught to hundreds of 5th and 6th grade students every year throughout multiple school districts. The DARE program has one full-time and two part-time instructors.
